2013. 'Introduction to the Foundation' event.
The Frederick Ashton Foundation held its second 'Introduction to the Foundation' in the Clore Studio at the Royal Opera House on Wednesday 6 February 2013.
Members of the invited audience were able to hear about the aims and objectives of the Foundation, meet Trustees and view a short programme presented by members of The Royal Ballet. In addition to the numerous guests, Year 2 students from the Royal Ballet School, currently studying Ashton's Monotones as part of a larger project for their Dance Appreciation unit, were also present.
The programme comprised:
• Film of the Farewell Gala to Sir Frederick Ashton held at the Royal Opera House on 29 July 1970: extracts shown featured among others compere Robert Helpmann, Deanne Bergsma in The Lord of Burleigh, Alexander Grant in Rio Grande and Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev in Marguerite and Armand.
• Masterclass given by Lynn Wallis, Artistic Director of the Royal Academy of Dance and at the time teaching Monotones to The Royal Ballet, with Ricardo Cervera shadowing her (as part of the Foundation's Mentoring and Training Programme to produce the Ashton repetiteurs of the future) as she rehearsed the ballet with Tristan Dyer, Yasmine Naghdi and Romany Pajdak.
