Early November saw students of the Ballet Academy University of Music and Theatre Munich perform Ashton’s one-act ballet Les Patineurs at the Bayerisches Staatsoper, Munich, as part of their Autumn Matinees.

Supported by a grant from The Frederick Ashton Foundation, the Academy welcomed two expert répetitéurs to rehearse and stage the ballet: renowned Ashton Stager Lynn Wallis and Helen Crawford—former Royal Ballet First Soloist and current participant on the Ashton Stagers’ Programme.

Lynn and Helen worked with two bachelor classes, offering the dancers invaluable insight into Ashton’s choreography, style and artistic vision. The matinees were a showcase for the city’s emerging talent, with junior musicians from the University of Music and Theatre performing Meyerbeer’s score for these celebratory student performances of Ashton’s wintry showpiece.
